LPG As Marine Fuel – The BW LPG Experience
At BW LPG, our business strategy is to optimize our assets and maximize their use. One way we are doing so, is by retrofitting our VLGCs with LPG propulsion technology, so that our ships can run on cleaner-burning LPG as fuel
LPG dual-fuel propulsion technology now powers 12 of our VLGCs, which is the world’s largest fleet of lower-emission VLGCs on water serving customers. We have committed to invest USD130 million to retrofit 15 of our vessels to decarbonise operations. With 12 vessels on water and over 10,000 hours in operation, we have proved that LPG propulsion technology works.
Pontus Berg discussed the key operational challenges and technical learnings from our experience thus far. He spoke as part of a panel “Member Engagement Meeting – Innovation & Growth” on 5 December.
