April 28 marks World Day for Safety and Health at Work, a day that promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. At BW LPG, the Health and Safety of our employees and crew are non-negotiable. Zero Harm is an organisation-wide safety campaign at BW LPG with the goal to ensure that safety remains the top priority across all our operations. We aim to provide the best value services in our industry through outstanding operating efficiency, but always keeping safety at the top of our agenda.

The theme for this year, “ensuring safe and healthy work now in a changing climate”, explores the impacts of climate change on occupational safety and health. As climate change intensifies, there is an increased risk of exposure to hazards such as excessive heat, ultraviolet radiation, extreme weather events, air pollution, vector-borne diseases and agrochemicals.

As the world’s leading owner and operator of VLGCs and affiliated with BW Group, sustainability is at the core of our business activities. We have the responsibility and ability to influence at scale. As we continue to pursue good shareholder returns to ensure the sustainability of our business, we also act to ensure the sustainability of the planet. There are many uses for LPG, and we deliver it to world markets safely and sustainably.

Prioritising safety and health is crucial to protecting our employees, the environment and our assets. To be a well-run company is to ensure we return value to our shareholders without compromising safety measures, maintenance, and regulatory compliance. This is because cutting corners on safety often leads to severe consequences, including reputational damage and legal liabilities. Zero Harm and profits are not competing interests – at BW LPG, we integrate safety, sustainability, and profitability into every aspect of operations. Investing in technology and infrastructure can enhance safety and efficiency simultaneously, while fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration across the industry can raise collective standards.

At BW LPG, we are an industry pioneer in powering our fleet with LPG, and we own and operate the world’s largest fleet of Very Large Gas Carriers to be retrofitted with LPG dual-fuel propulsion technology. We prioritise the health and safety of our crew and run campaigns to ensure we are Safer Together. On the occasion of World Day for Health and Safety at Work, we commit to make, the health and safety of our employees our priority.
